Burundi Cow Pies
Over the past few years, many families have returned to their homeland in Burundi from refugee camps in neighbouring countries. They’ve come back to find that their homes have been destroyed from war and their land is in very poor condition. Yet somehow, they must begin building their lives all over.
Growing food is difficult because the land has been stripped of trees and has been seriously affected by soil erosion. For the past few years they’ve been working hard at terracing the land and are now growing food, including grass to feed cows.
What’s so great about cows is that they can provide the rich organic manure so essential to fertilizing the soil that farmers depend on. Yes, that’s fondly known as Cow Pies! This cow manure helps increase the yield of a farmer’s harvest significantly. In addition, cows also provide milk for families to drink as well as future income through selling the calves. Cows are a great investment to families and benefit entire villages!
We can provide a cow for as little as $125.00 ea.
One cow actually costs $500, but CIDA (the Canadian International Development Agency) will match your gift three times over, turning your $125 into that $500!
