Have A Rice Day on International Day of the Family

May 15 is the International Day of the Family.

Each year, Millions of families  loose mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, sisters, and brothers due to hunger because their bodies are too weakened from malnutrition to fight off infection and disease. Many families around the world are separated because of hunger as parents and children travel far distances to find work.

Tuesday, May 15 is a day to focus on and celebrate families.

Marianne E. Neifert (Dr. Mom’s Parenting Guide) says: “The family is both the fundamental unit of society as well as the root of culture. It….is a perpetual source of encouragement, advocacy, assurance, and emotional refueling that empowers a child to venture with confidence into the greater world and to become all that he or she can be.”

A Mother's Heart Story for World Family Day

Ideally, that is what should happen in families. but how difficult life must be for families living in extreme poverty and chronic hunger.
We have a great opportunity for your family to learn about  families who don’t have a large table loaded with nutritious and delicious food to gather around each night at dinner time – or anytime.

On this International Day of the Family, be the host of a Virtual Family from Ethiopia!

Prepare a very special meal – a simple meal – a rice bowl meal.

Your virtual dinner guests will be a family all the way from Korah, Ethiopia where they live on the garbage fields.

They don’t have the kinds of things that most of us here in Canada have, but they are the same as we are with dreams and wishes.

Download the story, A Mother’s Heart story pgs one and two and read it to your family.

Take time to think and consider the differences in your family’s life from Marta and Bereket’s family. Learn how poverty and hunger can separate families and put each member in constant danger.

Then talk about it with your family and determine to make a donation to help. Let everyone who wants to, chip in, knowing that their giving will help other families living entrapped in extreme poverty.

The funds will help families in Korah through our partnering organization called: Hope for Korah. Your donation will also will help the ongoing work of Hunger Response International.
