Dan Wall
I grew up in the town of Yarrow, in a family of four kids and two fantastic parents. Although church involvement, school and music lessons were a priority (at first enforced, and then by choice), many of my free hours were spent exploring the nearby Vedder River and the Chilliwack River Valley, which fostered an enduring passion for adventure. Following graduation from Sardis Senior Secondary, I received a Wilderness and Outdoor Leadership Certificate from Prairie Bible College, which proved to be a foundational time in my life.
Coming back home, I spent a few years working for my father’s custom home building business, which transitioned into an Architectural Drafting Certificate from the University College of the Fraser Valley, and a career in architectural drafting/project managing, which continues to keep me happily occupied. In the mix of all of this, I met my wife
Jenn while working at Barnabas Family Ministries, a summer camp on Keats Island.
After living in Abbotsford for our first year of marriage, we moved to Winnipeg for Jenn to pursue a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture. We thrived in Winnipeg and loved the community that we quickly developed, but after Jenn finished her schooling in September 2009, decided to move back home to be closer to our families, and have lived in Abbotsford since that time.
I have always been involved in volunteering, primarily through involvement in the churches I have attended, but have had some recent highlights that were very special for me. In February 2010 I was privileged to join a team from Engineering Ministries International, heading down to a small village near Antigua, Guatemala, where we spent
a week designing an elementary school. Jenn and I were fortunate to return in January of 2011, just under a year later, to celebrate the opening of this school!
Other recent volunteer activities include working with Summit Portable Climbing Adventures, bringing a portable climbing wall to various community events, and volunteering for the 3 Alarm Adventure Race, a local annual event which raises money for the Abbotsford Fire Department’s Burn Fund.
I feel honoured to be a part of the Hunger Response International board, and look forward to what I can learn through my involvement.
